Mozarkite, the heart of Lincoln
Missouri's official state rock — found in and around Lincoln.
Mozarkite is a banded silica stone — a variety of chert with quartz — found primarily in Benton County, Missouri. Its colors range from rose and amber to gray and lavender, and it polishes to a brilliant finish prized by rockhounds and jewelers.
The Missouri General Assembly designated mozarkite as the official state rock in 1967. Lincoln has celebrated this heritage ever since, hosting the Mozarkite Society's annual Rock Swap each September.
